A Little About Pam

About Pam

Relax, Laugh, Flourish

What can you say about Dr Pam Medhurst? Well for a start, she’s proved to be rather good at applying herself wholeheartedly to everything she does! After leaving school at 16, Pam pursued a career as a head receptionist while bringing up her two children before returning to part-time higher education – completing her BA, MA and PhD in her spare time.

When an opportunity to leave her day job arose, Pam decided to take the leap and become a fully qualified yoga instructor, and along the way she’s added laughter yoga, pregnancy yoga as well as running fully accredited Feel the Fear workshops.

In her personal life, Pam has battled with depression and chronic fatigue and she uses these experiences to help others with their own problems. A genuine, professional and approachable outlook means that Pam is ideally placed to help everyone she possibly can. She also produces fabulous home-made biscuits, works hard on continuing training and development and has recently set up a happiness group with a friend! When the occasional bit of spare time allows, Pam loves reading, walking her dog and spending time with her lovely husband.

Yoga Classes

You don’t need to be really fit, massively flexible, young, a hippie, a buddhist, be able to sit still or to stand on your head - or any of the other typical yoga stereotypes!

Yoga is so much more than just another exercise system – it’s an exercise that can help you in many different aspects of your life. This includes breathing, relaxation, meditation, understanding the body, knowing when something needs attention and listening to it! It has personally helped Pam with both depression and chronic fatigue and has helped many others with varying health issues.

Pam offers adjustments and adaptations to any yoga students with any health issues or injuries. In yoga we practice Ahimsa - non-harm - and this means looking after you and your body!

Worried about getting started? Why not try one of our beginners yoga days! Keep checking the blog to see when the next one is scheduled and come and join us!

Laughter Yoga

You may have heard the saying 'Laughter is the best medicine', well Laughter Yoga taps into this idea and brings more laughter into everyday life! Laughter Yoga is beneficial in so many ways: it has therapeutic and preventative health benefits including reducing stress, increasing the flow of endorphins in the body, supporting the immune system, helps balance emotions, decreases anger, increases the rate of oxygen coming into the body, improves self-confidence and helps alleviate anxiety. The best thing about Laughter Yoga is that it doesn't matter if you’re laughing for real or 'faking it until you make it' – it still gives you the same benefits!

Keep checking the blog pages for details on any Laughter Yoga Sessions that are coming up.

Yoga for Business

Stressed, not sleeping, sluggish in the workplace? Pam can work with your staff on easily-replicated methods to relax, release and rejuvenate. By combining mindfulness, gentle movement, breathing and laughter yoga techniques; you leave feeling empowered, exhilarated and enthusiastic about going back to your work, knowing that you can use these methods at any time to bring you back to you! These techniques have been shown to reduce stress, combat depression, create greater feelings of well-being, increase a sense of community and better communication, and ultimately create a happier and healthier workforce.

"Pam runs her sessions in a way that makes them suitable for all levels of ability and experience. The breathing techniques she teaches are effective away from the yoga mat, and can be used at your desk during the course of the working day to create energy and relieve tension.” Kay Stevenson, KCom Group.

One to One Sessions

A one-to-one session is ideal for those who want to work on their posture, technique or for anyone just needing that extra bit of guidance (it also works if you’re shy!). Working one-on-one is a unique experience for both student and teacher.

The sessions begin with a detailed consultation to ascertain what it is you’re looking to achieve. The sessions will be tailored to suit the pace, content, focus and dynamic of each individual - whether you are an experienced yogi or a complete beginner!

If you’d like to book Pam for an initial consultation then please call on 07966 091513 or email info@pammedhurst.co.uk.

Your Beautiful Birth Workshops

In conjunction with Hannah Barnes (www.hmbnaturalhealth.co.uk), we're now offering workshops for pregnant women, focusing on overcoming barriers encountered to giving birth joyfully and naturally. These may have come about through popular media, negative birth stories through family and friends or past experiences. Heather will bring in her skills as an antenatal teacher, aromatherapist and massage instructor, and together we will offer a fun, inspiring and relaxing day. This will enable women to come together to support each other, learn skills and techniques to face any fears they may have around their upcoming birth, therefore transforming the experience into a positive, empowered and affirming life experience.

Women’s partners are also invited to the final hour and half of the day, so they can explore how they can support their partners throughout the birth, practice birthing positions, relaxation and breathing.

We have dates throughout 2015, in venues around Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, full day workshops (10 am to 4pm), with lunch included are priced at £75. If you'd like to take part in a workshop please contact Heather or Pam for further details and to book your place.

Feel the Fear

Feel The Fear

"Trust me when I tell you that fear doesn't have to hold you back. You, too, can learn how to push through your fears... ALL of your fears... with a sense of power, excitement, and love." Susan Jeffers

Our Feel the Fear workshops are inspirational and fun (combined with some work on your part!). What is it you currently fear? Speaking in public, driving to new places, asserting yourself, making decisions, starting a relationship, ending a relationship, becoming ill, starting college/university, returning to study, changing jobs, becoming unemployed, introducing yourself to a stranger, being alone, flying..? All of the above?

Maybe you have some of your own to add. If you knew you could handle everything that came your way, what would you possibly have to fear? Absolutely Nothing!

These fabulous workshops are based on the international best selling book by Susan Jeffers PhD. 25 years ago Susan Jeffers published Feel the Fear... and Do It Anyway – and the book has changed the lives of many millions of people, me included.

The workshops introduce tools and strategies to help you understand how to deal with fear, and to understand that 'whatever happens - you'll handle it'. The strategies will help identify your fears, understand how fear can make you act in particular ways and how to handle those fears to move forward to a more positive life.

We have a number of workshops throughout Yorkshire – please visit the blog to find details on the next one or contact Pam direct for more information.

"Accessible, with lots of exercises and information to apply to real situations. Life-changing stuff" Spirit and Destiny

"Simple yet profound reasoning" The Independent

"Like the title says, just go for it" Elle
